VIMY RIDGE- Canadian General, Curriw and british general, Julian Byng lead the battle. They used new strategies like "rolling thunder","Vimy glide" and aerial photographs. April 9, 1917, candians soldiers took over the Ridge. This was Canada's greatest victory. PASSCHENDAELE- entente and canadian troops won the battle, however it cost over 15000 canadian lives and nearly 500000soldiers on both sides of the battle.
Since Christmas is coming up I'm really in the spirit of things and I just can't imagine being at war during this special holiday! Those men and women at war would be missing thier families and their families would be missing them. This was probably a sad time for a lot of families too if they'd lost a loved one to war.
I think that at the battle of Vimy Ridge that the Canadians were a huge help. I don't think that if it wasn't for General Arthur Currie and his plan they wouldn't have been able to take Vimy Ridge. The Canadian soldiers were heroes in this battle with the rolling thunder move. They were so planned for Vimy Ridge it was awesome how they had pictures of the whole battle field, they knew exactly where the Germans were.
Passchendaele was a harsh battle though, compared to Vimy it was brutal to see the Canadians burtchered the way they were. Drowning in mud isn't perticularly a way I would want to die. They won the battle but at the cost of 15,000 soldiers, that is harsh.
Somme I bet got a lot of soldiers thinking that this war would never end. That battle was harsh! The fact that two Canadian battalions from Quebec broke through but lost 24,000 men is hard to take in. The fact that they lost soo many men is kind of disappointing.
One of the battles that the canadian troops where in, was Vimmy Ridge. Vimmy Ridge was considered one of the greatest military victories in ww1. The british and the french couldent take Vimmy Ridge but the canadians did. They used something called the vimmy glide whick was basicaly covering your own troops with artillarary. Because of this the canadians suffered minimal losses and took the german fortifications. That is why this is one of the greatest military victories in canadian history.
Canadian troops joined with the Algerians and had sacrificed their lives at the Battle of Ypres during which the Germans used chlorine or mustard gas. The Somme was one of the worst battles and thousands were killed within a short period. It wasn't until the second Somme battle did 2 Canadian battalions from Quebec succeed but at the cost of many more lives. Canadian troops were well respected for their efficiency, courage and endurance. Vimy Ridge, known as the greatest battle of WWI in Canadian history. They had proven to the world that, under the command of Canadian General Arthur Currie, they could execute a victory after careful planning. During 1917, the CEF was called to battle at Passchendaele. It was one of the dreadful and muddy event and thousands of lives were lost. Hope seemed to be lost for the Entente but led by the Canadians they pulled another victory.

I heard that the Canadians went in the German trenchs when they weren't fighting and played cards with them.

Canadians made a huge difference by taking out most of the Germans at Vimmy Ridge.
What gave you that idea?
